Leave requests left email and never came back

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. I would recommend it to a business of our size without hesitation.

What works

Strong multi entity handling for groups. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork. Leave requests and approvals happen on the phone without training.

What does not

Reporting is adequate rather than strong.

Used for 2 to 5 years

Onboarding admin dropped by half

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Strong multi entity handling for groups. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. Nothing has come up in the last year that I would call a real problem. If you are weighing it up, do the trial with your own data and you will see it.

What works

Data protection controls built for GDPR, which POPIA closely follows. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork. Reporting on headcount and turnover is available without asking IT.

What does not

Recruitment is a separate module at a separate price.

Fine platform, priced above what we use

Solid for the core, but we still keep a spreadsheet for the reporting we actually need. Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. Fine for our needs. Test it properly against your own requirements.

What works

Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. Leave management works reliably.

What does not

The mobile experience is weaker than the desktop. BCEA leave had to be configured rather than selected.

Employees actually log in, which surprised me

We had leave in a shared spreadsheet for six years. This was overdue. Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. I would recommend it to a business of our size without hesitation.

What works

Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. Onboarding checklists removed most of the first week paperwork. Document storage with e signature removed a printing step entirely.

What does not

Data is hosted offshore, which our information officer had to sign off.

Managers use it without being chased

The employee file being in one place made our last inspection straightforward. Granular permissions that properly restrict special personal information. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Worth the migration effort, which is not something I say often.

Beyond that it is more ordinary than the marketing suggests. It sits squarely in the middle for us, useful but not something I would champion. It is a reasonable choice, provided you know what it does not do.

Leave requests left email and never came back

Managers approve leave from their phones now, which was the whole point. Document and approval workflows with a full audit trail. That is the part that genuinely changed how we work. There are irritations, and none of them are the kind that make you look elsewhere. Two years in and nobody has suggested we look at alternatives.
